We are a small school in Manchester UK and our curriculum was developed with Rabbi Weber from Yerusholayim. In developing the curriculum we were looking for a way to allow the children in the foundation year of learning Chumash to become independent learners by mastering the Chumash text. This included several areas
1. Accurate reading
3. Prefixes / suffixes
4. Putting the words together so they may understand the sentence
5. Comprehension of the sentence with the wider context of what they are learning
6. Being able to summarize / give a title to matter being learnt
We begin working on all these areas as soon as they start learning Chumash. We used several schemes that helped us in achieving these goals, yet we had to work on developing the program and work sheets to ensure that the above aims are met.
